'Zootopia 3' Will Introduce Birds and Head Beyond Zootopia City
Jared Bush says 'Zootopia 3' will bring birds into the franchise and may travel outside Zootopia City. No release date yet.
Disney’s ‘Zootopia 3’ is going to widen the map. Speaking with Collider at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival, Disney Animation Chief Creative Officer Jared Bush confirmed that the next film will bring birds into the franchise’s world, and that it may be the first time the series travels outside the bounds of Zootopia City.
“I think people know at this point that we are going to introduce birds into the world of Zootopia,” Bush said. He added that Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde will remain “at the very center” of any Zootopia story, and that the film is “going to take a lot of time to get right.”
Bush said that he and co-director Byron Howard first talked about adding reptiles and birds about 15 years ago, while making the original film. ‘Zootopia 2’ introduced reptiles.
There’s no release date yet. Bush explained that Disney Animation plans its slate about ten years ahead, but titles can be shuffled, so ‘Zootopia 3’ “could be in a few different years” depending on how the studio’s other films are doing. Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman voice Judy and Nick.
